The Engagement

The story of how Jon popped the question…

Jon told Kristi he had made plans to take her out for her birthday (Kristi’s birthday is in December, a couple weeks before Christmas). Jon told Kristi that they were going to go to Olive Garden.
When the day came for their dinner plans, as Jon was driving the two to the restaurant, Kristi realized that they were not going in the direction of their local Olive Garden and asked, “Where are you going? I thought we were going to Olive Garden?”
Jon replied, “Yes we are, we are going to where we had our first date.” Kristi was surprised, but impressed and at the same time a little suspicious, as this was going the extra mile, even for Jon who is always the romantic.

The two enjoyed a delicious meal and at the end of dinner, Jon asked Kristi,
“Would you like your birthday present now?” Kristi replied, “Well, yes!”
Jon pulled out a small box, that looked to be the size of a ring-sized jewelry box!
Kristi inside was thinking, “Is this really happening?!” Feeling nervous and excited, but at the same time, thinking “I hope this isn’t happening over a table of dirty dishes.”
Kristi opened the box, and it was a pair of earrings. Ha – Jon fooled her!
Kristi immediately thought, “Ok, it is off. It is not happening this time.”

After dinner, Jon told Kristi, who hadn’t looked more disappointed to get a pair of earrings before, “I know that’s not what you really wanted for your birthday, but I’m going to take you ice skating.” Kristi has always wanted to go ice skating with Jon since the two have been together, but Jon had always refused. She was so surprised, but very excited!

Jon took Kristi to the Depot downtown Minneapolis. The two skated together, holding  hands around the rink for about an hour until open skate was done.  Kristi, then got off the ice and proceeded to take off her skates. Jon at this moment said, “Let me help you with those” then got down on one knee and said, “Will you marry me?”

Kristi said, “OMG, is this really happening?! (with pure surprise and excitement!)”
She said, “YES, YES, YES!”

Jon then told Kristi, “Ok, put your skates back on, we have the whole rink to ourselves now.”

All the others had cleared out, love music started to play overhead and a chilled bottle of champagne with two glasses were brought to the table! We cheered a glass of bubbly to celebrate, then we skated around in pure bliss, while staring into each others’ eyes, just being in love! Then it started to snow, and the night was just magical!

Kristi found out later that Jon had planned the earrings as a decoy, had arranged for the two to have the rink to themselves after open skate, made a special playlist of love songs that they skated to, and brought in the champagne for the two to enjoy!
– What a romantic! He’s a keeper!
